Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-in
The challenge for information security and storage is one of the dominant problems for any enterprise class IT infrastructure. Cloud and virtualization technologies are designed to provide secure and reliable storage in addition to reducing IT and hosting costs. NexentaStor provides the ability to leverage ZFS advantages together with cloud storage.

The Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-In
is a NexentaStor plugin which provides backup and restore capabilities for NexentaStor volumes to and from the specified cloud storage.

The following diagram illustrates a schematic concept of the CloudArchive backup and restore processes.

The Nexenta Cloud Archive Architecture

Cloud Archive allows you to:

  • Periodically back up NexentaStor volumes and folders to one or more cloud storage areas.
  • Restore directly from the Cloud to your NexentaStor appliance.

ZFS to Cloud Mapping

Storing ZFS volumes in the Cloud requires mapping to Cloud buckets. A bucket, or container, is a directory in which your datasets are stored. By default, a new instance of the Cloud Archive backup function creates a new bucket, and uses this bucket to store non-incremental and incremental snapshots of the specified ZFS source.

Backup Schedule

Cloud Archive lets you create a schedule for backing up snapshots. Whether it is once a week or twice a day, Cloud Archive supports any schedule. Cloud Archive backs up both types of NexentaStor snapshots: incremental and full.

Multiple Cloud Providers Support

The current version of CloudArchive supports the following three Cloud Providers:

All three cloud storage providers can connect to one NexentaStor appliance. Cloud Archive introduces the concept of User Profiles. Each profile is related to a specific Cloud Provider account. You can use one profile for multiple backups.

Real-Time Statistics

Cloud Archive lets you monitor the process of backing up to and restoring from the Cloud in real-time.
